Pediatrics Office

the brief - origami.

Origami is not only a creative outlet for children, but also a form of focused meditation that helps stabilize the mind and promote calmness. By designing a room filled with intertwining geometric shapes, the space will transform the pediatrics office into an engaging, playful environment. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns will make the room feel imaginative, turning the whole experience into something comforting instead of intimidating.

wayfinding.

The floor patterns serve more than just a decorative purpose - they guide children to their designated exam rooms. The layout of the building is inspired by the folding technique of the origami butterfly: the hallway represents the body, the bathroom represents the head, and each exam room represents as a wing, featuring its own unique pattern.

sunlight and privacy.

Floor-to-ceiling windows are not ideal for privacy in exam rooms, so each room was thoughtfully positioned away from the windows. Biophilic studies have demonstrated that being surrounded by sunlight fosters a healthier, more productive environment though. To maximize natural light while maintaining energy efficiency, transoms were strategically placed wherever they could capture direct sunlight. This approach allows the building to harness as much natural light as possible, all while minimizing its carbon footprint.
